Produced by Paul Rotha (1907-1984) and Strand Films for Southern Railways, and directed by John B. Holmes (1901-1968). The verse ('The line waits') is by W.H. Auden (1907-1973). The film comprises a historical representation of Portsmouth and the London-Portsmouth road, and a filmed journey on the electrified London-Portsmouth railway line. Released in 1937.
