Notes

These songs were originally issued as 'Volume I' but although other Auden settings were composed, a cucessor volume did not appear in Briten's lifetime. Other Auden settings were written October 1937 which may have been intended for Volume II: To lie flat on the back, Night covers up the rigid land, and The sun shines down.
