Notes

Britten was working concurrently at three films for Arthur Elton (1906-1973 at the British Commercial Gas Association during September 1935: Dinner hour, Men behind the meters and How gas is made. Composition for all three took place between 2 Sep and 13 Sep and they were all recorded on 16 September 1935. Additional sequences for 'Men behind the meters' were written after 16 September (probably completed on 30 September) and recorded on 7 October. This score includes Britten's arrangement of Michael Balfe's song 'I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halls.'
