Notes

This was one of Britten's earliest songs, and one he returned to several times during the 1920s. He revised it, along with Beware! (Nov 1922) and Fuzzy-wuzzy (ca. 1922) in ca.1967-68 and prepared it for publication. It was published, along with 'Beware!' and Epitaph (1926) in 1985.
