Inspired partly by the last line of Keats's unfinished poem Hyperion. In the draft and fair copy the various sections have titles (subsequently deleted by the composer):

'Fanfare' (7 before fig. 4)

'Chorale' (7 before fig. 14)

'Coda' (4 after fig. 17).

After the second broadcast with the composer as soloist the work was withdrawn by the composer.
