Notes

Written to accompany a radio dramatization of the King Arthur legend by D. Geoffrey Bridson, and produced by Val Gielguid. An orchestral scherzo (No. XIVA) was later used for the 'Dance of death' in Ballad of heroes, op. 14, and other material from the score was used in the revised Impromptu of the Piano concerto, op. 13.

A suite for orchestra based on the original score was arranged by Paul Hindmarsh and published in 1996.
