Composition for all three took place between 2 Sep and 13 Sep and they were all recorded on 16 September 1935. Additional sequences for 'Men behind the meters' were written after 16 September (probably completed on 30 September) and recorded on 7 October. This score includes Britten's arrangement of Michael Balfe's song 'I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halls.'
