Britten has written 'Mr Ireland' [John Ireland, Britten's professor at the Royal College of Music] in the top right hand corner of page 1r, next to which is written 'Grade V'. A series of comments about the work has been written at the bottom of page 2r by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The first system of page 2r is not part of this piece.
