Notes

A musical self-portrait, the second of three planned sketches. The first is a portrait of Britten's schoolfriend from Gresham's, David Layton (Sketch for strings no. 1 from Aug 1930), and the third (which remained unfinished and is now missing) is of Peter Floud, another school friend (Sketch for strings no. 3 from Sep 1930).
