Notes

A musical 'sketch' of David Layton, a Gresham's friend of Britten's. This is the first of three planned sketches: the second one of which is a self-portrait of Britten himself (Sketch for strings no. 2 from Sep 1930) , and the third (which remained unfinished and is now missing) of Peter Floud, another school friend (Sketch for strings no. 3 from Sep 1930).
