Notes

This was Britten's contribution to the London production of Roussin's 'comédie-farce en trois actes' and was probably the result of his friendship with Tony Mayer (who for many years worked in the Cultural Section of the Frendh Embassy in London). It consists of a single number that could be performed either as a unison song with piano accompaniment or as a four-part canon. A facsimile of the undated ink fair copy was published in Tempo, 107 (December 1973).
